IT was a day in the early spring time,
By an ancient water well
Eliezer came to rest this camel train;
He has found a bride for Isaac,
E’er the evening shadows fall;
His weary journey had not been in vain;
So he took the fair Rebekah
Dressed in garments rich and rare,
Back to Abraham his master far away;
Well Rebekah loved her Isaac
And he loved Rebekah fair,
Oh it must have been a happy wedding day.

O get ready, the evening shadows fall,
Don’t you hear Eliezer’s call,
There’s going to be a wedding supper,
Our joys will soon begin,
In the evening when the camel train comes in.

Now the blessed Holy Spirit
Through the prophet of this day (hour)
Has come down to us hunt a worthy bride,
For Isaac over yonder has prepared his tent of love
And he wants his fair Rebekah by his side.
She has left her brother and mother (kinfolks gladly)
And had bade them all good bye,
And she’s going to his home beyond the sea
Well she’ll soon behold her Isaac
In the blest eternity, what a happy happy
Wedding that will be.
